THE UNDERGROUND — ISSUE #92
Everything you need to know about in this weekly series: A new breathtaking video game coming out for PS4, the Supergirl trailer that finally introduces Superman, Hillary Clinton gets in between two ferns, and the controversial Ghost in the Shell teaser has been released.
At Social Underground we go beyond the mainstream stuff and see what’s underneath the surface. What should we get into, listen to, read, eat or watch? If there is something in our culture that needs attention that’s our job: Show you the underground things that you need to know about: Books, music, television, movies, comedians, art, and whatever else we can find to get you into something you never knew about. That’s The Underground.
1. Horizon Zero Dawn looks absolutely gorgeous. In a year that gave us the incredibly disappointing No Man’s Sky, Horizon Zero Dawn actually looks like it will live up to the hype. In a world where humanity and all its technology seemed to collapse, humans now live like nomads who travel the planet where there are so robotic animals that have taken over the planet.
The game play below gives you a glimpse of the world you will be able to explore, but it doesn’t give enough away to spoil the game for you. Just know that it looks amazing. I never usually get excited for wing blowing through video game plants, but damn does it look beautiful. This game is definitely at the top of the list of games that I will buy when it comes out at the end of the year (maybe?).
Check out the E3 gameplay video below to see what the PS4 can really deliver.
2. Supergirl finally gets visited by her cousin Superman in the trailer for Supergirl. For the most part, the first season of Supergirl was pretty good. The only thing that irked me is the fact that there are world ending villains attacking Supergirl, but Superman never shows up unless it’s a glimpse of him. In the new season, it finally looks like the man of steel will show up in the flesh instead of talking to her in a chatroom.
Marvel may be killing it on the big screen, by DC has television on lockdown. Most of The CW is DC properties, so adding Supergirl will probably lead to a massive crossover event that I will tune into immediately. Have a look at the little teaser trailer that show both Kryptonian cousins fly around in the sky. The CGI used in television shows are becoming more and more improved as the years go by. This trailer proves it.
3. Hillary Clinton decides it was a good idea to be a guest on Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis. The presidential nominee came to Zach’s show, which is basically him just making fun of his guest by saying the most inappropriate things that make the guest uncomfortable. The sad thing about this interview is he actually shows no restraint and goes at her with all the controversy the media is talking about, but doesn’t have to balls to really address them. Not here, though.
I’m sure Clinton knew everything that was going on, but this is one of the best episodes of the show I have seen with him interviewing someone, and that includes President Obama. Everything from her being sick to her e-mail controversy, Zach has some funny quip that looks like it pisses her off. Not only that, he stops mid-show to play a Donald Trump ad during the interview. That moment really made me think this wasn’t planned. I would be pissed if I was Clinton, but Galifianakis doesn’t care.
I’m sure Clinton would later yell at a staffer later for suggesting she do this show. For me, I honestly respect her more now that she took all of his hits. Have a look at the video below to laugh and feel really awkward.
4. The first footage from the controversial Ghost in the Shell has been released. I loved the original Japanese anime film, but sine Scarlett Johansson is white and not asian like in the film, people started freaking out. To be clear, her character is a robot, not a human. So I don’t really care as much as other people since she actually looks the part. I would cast her in the film without thinking of the white-washing since she really looks like the character she plays. Plus she killed it in the movie Lucy, so I knew she could handle the role with ease.
Original Premise: In 2029, the world is interconnected by a vast electronic network that permeates every aspect of life. Much of humanity has access to this network through cybernetic bodies, or “shells”, which possess their consciousness and can give them superhuman abilities.
What I think will happen is a lot of pervs will complain that she won’t be naked most of the time. In the original, she is super naked, but I don’t think they will go that route in this film. If you want to see that, go watch her in Under The Skin. That is basically Scarlett naked for the entire movie. What’s it about? I have no idea.
Ghost in the Shell comes out in 2017. I for one will be in line on day 1 to see if they can pull this off. Check out the teaser trailer below.
