Stand Up Sex With Comedian Alia Janine
Comedian Alia Janine has had an interesting career trajectory proving there is more than just ‘life’ after retiring from porn, there’s also success.
Alia started out like many performers as a feature dancer when she was 20 years old. From there she got her degree in Police Science and became a security guard, and an armored car driver.
When she turned 30, Alia moved to Tampa to continue her dancing career which was her entre into the adult industry. Four years and 150 scenes later, she switched professional gears once again.
After appearing in feature films, cable movies, comedy sketches, books and radio shows, Alia turned her attention to make up and mainstream music videos. She also started writing jokes for her comedian friends, which led to performing with comic Sam Tripoli and his Naughty Show in 2010.
From there Alia moved to NY and started taking classes at UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade) and other schools. She performed at the city’s best comedy clubs and eventually established her own acclaimed showcase at New York City’s The Cutting Room called, The Cutthroat Comedy Hour.
The Cutthroat Comedy Hour is a no-holds-barred comedy showcase featuring the industry’s brightest comics, top porn stars, sex toy giveaways, plus surprise guests. Doors open at 9pm, show starts at 10pm.
The former adult model and actress turned stand up comic also hosts her own podcast, The Scatterbrains Podcast, where she talks about life, sex and comedy; and covers everything from todays hot topics to sex education, with funny and informative interviews.
Alia started her own network to house her podcast called, The Misfits Network, which hosts shows from all around the country, and is home to not only comedians, but to other podcasters that don’t quite “fit in” with the other networks.
This busy entrepreneur is also an Undergrad pursuing a degree in Psychology online, and has been inducted into several national and international honor societies. I caught up with Alia in between podcasts, studying, and shows, to pick her brain about stand up, and sex.
10 Questions with Alia Janine
What was the transition from porn to comedy like?
It was really smooth. It’s funny actually, because a comic that knew me from porn heard I was doing comedy and asked me to do his show. I met a bunch of other comics, started networking, and getting spots on other shows. I started producing and hosting my own show, and now I am working on producing three other shows with my new production company, Hardcore Comedy Entertainment.
Do you get hit on after your shows by audience members, waiters, bartender’s, and bar backs?
No more than I get hit on before my shows. 😉 No, not really, every place that I have worked everyone has been really professional. Audience members will want to take pictures with me after shows, but that’s normal. There’s always joking and playful flirting, but I worked in the service industry for 10+ years, that’s also normal, and fun.
What’s your worst, and best stand up experience so far?
They have all been good experiences, even the bad ones. I need to bomb to learn, so I don’t mind when I do. I had one show in Brooklyn that was a “show and tell” comedy show. They had comics and then the audience members would participate in the show and tell. According Jim Jefferies it was “national anal sex day,” so I decided to bring in a bunch of anal sex toys and talk about them to the audience. I had gauged butt plugs, vibrating anal beads, and double penetration vibrators. Basic toys found in any porn stars toolbox. But, I basically shocked and possibly terrified some with the stories behind each one. I also did a show for two people, that was gnarly.
What is your process on writing your material?
I am all over the place. I have notebooks and I use the voice recorded on my phone. Once a week I gather all my notes and work them into bits, or toss them.
What do other porn stars think of your routine?
The ones that have seen it really like it because they can relate to it. Considering I Live in New York there are not that many porn stars to see my shows. When Im in LA there’s always a group that comes out.
Are there any jokes that you thought were winners that bombed when you tried them?
All of them? Lol. I have pretty solid material, but it’s how I deliver it. Some bits work for some audiences and some don’t.
Have you had any hecklers yet? If so, how do you deal with them?
Not really. I do some crowd work, so I talk to the audience members. I had a table of girls talking once, and I asked them what they were talking about. They wanted to know if my boobs were real, so now I do a bit telling everybody that my boobs are real to help prevent any talking. Working so far!
Tell us a NSFW porn joke or story that’s too raunchy for your stand up routine?
I don’t have any that I don’t tell. I talk about being covered in cum, and being more embarrassed about security tapes of me beating up dudes in strip clubs than the Japanese rape fetish scene I shot. I do have a show that’s at a temple festival in June though, so I’m going to clean it up a bit and talk about my Catholic upbringing.
Living in both NY and LA makes you bicoastal, but are you bisexual?
I am actually pansexual.
What do you think should be legalized that is currently illegal?
Marijuana. Seriously, it’s hilarious to me that it’s not. The whole American political machine is a joke, a very sad joke.
