First Look: the “Rocky” reboot “Creed”
The Rocky Series series dates back to 1976 and spans six films chronicling the fictional hard luck southpaw slugger “Rocky “The Italian Stallion” Balboa’s improbable heavyweight title reign. It’s been 30 years since Balboa’s rival, Apollo “the King of Sting, the Master of Disaster, the Count of Monte Fisto” Creed lost his screen life tragically in the ring to Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.
Following the pitch-perfect sixth film, “Rocky Balboa,” which saw the Rock come back in his sixties for one last go, the series seemed appropriately completed.
But things in Hollywood and boxing, which have long enjoyed a cinematic love affair, have a way of coming back. In boxing, old fighters don’t retire. They become trainers. In movies, franchises don’t retire. They reboot.
In case you’re wondering if Rocky shows up, well, see for yourself:
Creed, a new chapter in the Rocky story, opens November 25. I can’t wait.
