‘The Nice Guys’ Red Band Trailer – NSFW
Fans of writer-director Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3) are in luck. A master of the Partners-That-Hate-Each-Other movie, the first trailer for his upcoming release, The Nice Guys, looks to be everything Shane Black fans look for in his movies. Set in Los Angeles circa 1977 and starring Russell Crowe as some sort of mob heavy and Ryan Gosling as a ne’er-do-well private eye in a noirish tale involving the search for a missing girl.
In typical Shane Black fashion, the trailer features a bit of nudity, tons of violence, and whip-smart dialogue that all hint at what will likely be a well-crafted plot. As a bonus, Black has apparently broken Gosling of his fake New York tough guy accent.
If you aren’t familiar with Black’s work (impossible considering the success of the Lethal Weapon franchise), check out Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which teamed Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. in another noirish mystery set in L.A. That film was also written and directed by Black, who is also slated to bring to life the film version of Doc Savage, a personal favorite. I can’t think of a director better suited to that project. The Nice Guys opens May 20, 2016.
