‘MR. ROBOT’ — eps2.9_pyth0n-pt2.p7z— RECAP AND ANALYSIS
Each week, Social Underground will go over the newest episode of the hit show Mr. Robot. There will be a recap of what happened, and then some commentary on what happened and where the show might go next. Trying to figure out where this show goes is pretty difficult since there are many plots that interweave. The good thing about that is having a show that’s unpredictable. No one likes knowing the end of a season at the beginning.
Last Week’s Recap: ‘MR. ROBOT’— EPS2.9_PYTH0N-PT1.P7Z— RECAP AND ANALYSIS
Last week kicked off a two-part season finale for Mr. Robot. Some stuff was answered, but one of the biggest cliffhangers from a shooting went unanswered. Are Darlene and Cisco alive? That wasn’t answered, but we did get to see Dom wash off blood and have a weird conversation with her Amazon robot. She is in dire need of a friend or someone to have sex with. That isn’t a sexist statement, but damn, when you ask if a robot loves you, you might need to take some Zoloft or something.
This is the last episode of the year, which basically means Wednesday is a pointless day again instead of Mr. Robot day. Let’s jump into the season finale for season 2! Pssst, Rami Malek also won the Emmy for Best Actor this year. Much respect.
SPOILERS BELOW!!!
Tyrell had begged Elliot to be let in on the plan months ago. Tyrell leads Elliot to a discrete location and reveals that E Corp has been gathering all its paper records across the street. They’re trying to rebuild their database.
The reveal of Stage 2 is that a hack of the building using firmware to create a hydrogen gas explosion to level the building and break E Corp beyond repair. I’m really interested to see if this type of thing is possible. Since Mr. Robot really tries to be real when it comes to hacking, this idea is a bit unnerving.
What’s also unnerving is seeing Elliot as his alternate personality. You only ever see Christian Slater playing Mr Robot, so seeing Elliot actually be his alter-ego was a bit jarring.
Elliot also reminds Tyrell that Joanna has been looking for him. Wellick, looking a bit ashamed or guilty, simply replies with “I’m doing what’s necessary.” He should’ve also added that he isn’t much into beating the hell out of his wife during sex, but that’s just me saying that. Can’t we just have sex where we don’t have to choke each other out? Simple request, Joanna.
Scott is the owner of the mystery phone making Joanna suffer because Sharon died pregnant. That explains why the henchmen of Joanna was so caught off guard when he learned the location of the phone. Joanna says she deserved to die and Scott beats her, but stops and calls 911. Nothing like beating up a woman and realizing that was probably a bad idea. It’s always a bad idea.
Joanna asks Derek (her boyfriend) to frame Scott for Sharon’s murder. Joanna is some kind of crazy. When pregnant people get murdered, it doesn’t really matter how bad they are, they are still pregnant. An immediate cutting off of the testicles should only be the first day in prison for them. If a woman does it… I’m sure someone could be creative. Scott also called 911 after being the crap out of a woman… shouldn’t that get some jail time?
Dom reveals Cisco is dead (he got his head blown off in the shooting), and Darlene keeps pleading the 5th to her questions until Dom reveals Romero’s death was a random accident.
“If you want any other details, the answer is suck a d*ck.” Darlene tells Dom. Dom just laughs at her. Just a little bit of tension between two women who don’t give a F about anyone. The problem is that Dom has the video tape evidence from fsociety, but Darlene knows all this. What she forgets is all the equipment is linked to the Fun Society arcade that was used as the base of operations. Uh oh.
Dom makes it seem like the FBI were tracking fsociety for months under Project Bernstein; including Elliot. In the process of doing this, Dom opens up that she has no life and starts tearing up. Awkward… but remember the last episode where Darlene said she never felt special? Dom keeps telling Darlene how special she really is. Bingo. Dom reveals that Romero wasn’t killed by the Dark Army, but instead was killed by a stray bullet from next door. The FBI knows a lot, but they still think Tyrell is the ringleader of it all.
One of the best parts of this episode is where Darlene is being questioned. An FBI agent gets really serious and says, “You are not on some television show. This isn’t Burn Notice...” That was hilarious.
Elliot refuses to kill innocent people and is convinced Tyrell is not real because Elliot is nuts. I mean, when you see imaginary people and the first half of the season was covered in a veil of Elliot not realizing he was in prison, you have to question every person that comes into your life, especially one you thought was dead. Elliot tries to undo the firmware hack, but Tyrell shoots him with Darlene’s stolen gun. WHAAAAT?! Elliot is all about hacking evil corporations, but he isn’t about killing innocent people. Hell, even Tyler Durden reassured the Narrator in Fight Club that the buildings are empty.
Elliot gets shot because he still thought Tyrell was part of his imagination. He thought it was another trick by Mr. Robot. Tyrell is completely confused because unlike the audience, he has no idea what the hell is wrong with Elliot. The frustration on his face as he points the gun at Elliot is evidence of that. I’d shoot him, too. This guy sets up all this stuff with you, then he goes into his mania state and tries to undo it all? Pew pew!
It takes a lot to shock me, but when Elliot looks down and sees all the blood, you realize that the main character of the show was just gut shot. It felt like all the air left the room when I saw that. I also saw why Rami Malek won an Emmy for best actor. The look on his face as he was shot was incredible:
Angela gets a call from a distraught Tyrell through the Dark Army, departing to wake up Elliot while another brownout occurs. What is even happening? Angela seems to be some hardcore boss, Tyrell is crying, and Elliot is still alive to be “woken up.” This piles on the questions section of this episode.
In a post-credits scene (do we really need to do the same bullsh*t that Marvel does in a TV show? Meh), Mobley and Trenton are living under assumed names and discuss possibly undoing the hack but are then approached by Leon. Remember Leon? Elliot’s Dark Army bodyguard in jail? Since it looks like Mobley and Trenton are talking about undoing all the work fsociety and the Dark Army were involved in, it doesn’t look too good for them.
That’s season 2, folks! Was it good? Of course? Different feel from the first season? Completely. Did it set up the next season as well? Totally. Let’s get into some of the burning questions:
- How does Elliot survive that gun shot?
- Is Angela the head of fsociety now?
- Will Darlene become a double agent since she saw the FBI info on all of them?
- Did the explosion happen at E Corp since Elliot was taken out of the equation?
- Will Mobley and Trenton be killed?
- Will Joanna find out that Tyrell is still alive?
- What will the Wellick’s reunion look like, and how will her new boyfriend react?
- How bad are the brown-outs going to get before utter chaos ensues in America?
- Will Dom ever get a life? What? She said it, not me.
- Will Elliot (if he really is alive) and Angela ever bang it out? They both really need to get laid.
- How did the FBI compile all that specific information?
- Will Sam Esmail direct all the episodes next season? He seems to really love work.
- What will happen to Angela now that she decided not to give herself up to the FBI… even though they know she’s involved?
- Where do we go from here?
Welp, that was a fun season. I think I will go rewatch the season since I don’t want to wait a whole year until new episodes. Oh, and if USA decides to cancel the show out of nowhere like other networks have done? I will learn how to hack, but then get over it. I lose interest in things fast.
