THE UNDERGROUND – ISSUE #115
Everything you need to know about in this weekly series: A video about how horrible things will go when milk is produced, an international phenomenon returns after 4 long years, a mind-blowing movie will finally be released this summer, and life hacks to save you some money.
At Social Underground we go beyond the mainstream stuff and see what’s underneath the surface. What should we get into, listen to, read, eat or watch? If there is something in our culture that needs attention that’s our job: Show you the underground things that you need to know about: Books, music, television, movies, comedians, art, and whatever else we can find to get you into something you never knew about. That’s The Underground
1. How dairy is made quickly devolves into insane animal abuse. I have to be honest: I was eating a mozzarella stick when I was sent this video. At first it was fine, but then all hell breaks loose into how terrible animals are treated when giving milk. It also makes you feel like an idiot for drinking another animal’s milk. Think about that! You are eating or drinking another animal’s milk all of the time. I rarely drink milk because I’m not 9-years-old and forced to eat that, but I can’t deny that I will eat pizza with zero hesitation. Don’t put any substitute cheese made out of cardboard on my pizza.
If you have the time, give this video a watch. It’s quite NSFW since that latter half of the video shows some gruesome abuse to cows. It’s definitely something you don’t want to watch in your cubicle as your work friend comes up behind you drinking a mocha latte.
2. Attack on Titan will finally return after 4 years of waiting.
When it comes to waiting for new episodes of a show, Attack on Titan has been taking its sweet ass time to come back. Now, I know that the show has waited for the manga to hit a certain point for new episodes to be produced to catch up with it, but it’s still takes so long. Then again, we would have to deal with Dragonball Z type episodes. That show was produced simultaneously with the manga, which meant that they had to draw out a plot that should last 2 episodes, but went on for 9. I can’t even tell you how annoying it is watching one character power up, and then watch all the other characters stare at him the entire time.
Premise: After his hometown is destroyed and his mother is killed, young Eren Jaegar vows to cleanse the earth of the giant humanoid Titans that have brought humanity to the brink of extinction.
I’ll probably be too impatient to wait for the English dub of this, but that’s only because this show is so damn good. Check out the trailer for season 2 below. It starts airing April 1st in Japan (take that with a grain of salt because of the date), so be on the look out of English subtitles episodes appearing online.
3. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets looks even better in its second trailer. One of the most inspirational comic series of all times if getting the adaptation it deserves by visionary director Luc Besson. He directed this amazing film called The Fifth Element. You know the one that still looks flawless from 1995? Yeah. Besson wanted to make this into a film first, but he couldn’t possibly get it to look the way he wanted the film to look until the technology caught up. I think we’ve reached that point, because this looks breathtaking.
Premise: In the 28th century, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha—an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.
I don’t really have much else to say. This movie is the movies that made many of the sci-fi classics possible. Let’s just hope they don’t screw it up. Hearing people compare it to the look of Jupiter Ascending makes me sick. The film stars Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, Herbie Hancock, and Kris Wu. It will be released everywhere on July 21st.
4. 14 money saving life hacks to get cash in your wallet. Most of the life hacks you see posted on your unhappily married friends Facebook wall are for idiots. Cutting a box of ice cream in half to make a bowl out of it? No, go get a bowl and scoop ice cream into the bowl. I can’t stress enough that most of the life hacks you read about in a listicle from a website that has ads about “5 tricks your doctor doesn’t want you to know” are most likely garbage.
The video below actually has some great life hacks that will work to save you money. I have one life hack for you from me: stop buying bottled water. You have water in your tap that you can drink for so much cheaper. Plus, all of that plastic is just awful. A dolphin with probably swallow it and die. Good job, you killed a dolphin.
Take a look at some money saving tips below so that you can use the money for other important things.
