Gin is apparently good for your metabolism, study finds
Do you enjoy casually drinking but hate the calories associated with alcohol? It may be time to make your drink of choice a gin and tonic. A new study by ‘Food & Nature’ found that gin will increase your metabolism, triggering an “after burn” effect that will help the body burn calories.

The theory was tested on mice, half of whom were given gin while the other half were given water, and found that the gin-mice had a 17 percent metabolic increase. “Consumption of gin resulted in a marked increase in metabolic rate, which indicates the spirit may have a slimming effect on the body,” Lead author Professor Thisa Lye said. Researchers are still unclear as to the reason for the metabolic increase but further tests are needed to determine if it will have a similar effect on humans.
