‘BasketBall Blood’ Chris and Doug Collins. The Collins family is rich in basketball history.
Doug Collins, 66, was the number-one overall pick in the 1973 NBA draft and played nearly a decade in Philadelphia, where he was a four-time All-Star, before embarking on a successful career as an NBA head coach, broadcaster and executive. His son Chris, 43, played four years at Duke University and later followed his father into coaching. In 2013, Chris landed his first head coaching job, at Northwestern University, and four years into his tenure led the team to its best finish since before World War II and first NCAA Tournament berth ever, not to mention its first Tournament win.

Northwestern secured its spot in the Tournament with a miraculous finish that was eerily similar to the worst moment of Doug’s playing career, when the U.S. Olympic team lost in perhaps the most controversial game in basketball history at the 1972 Munich Games. Correspondent Andrea Kremer gets father and son together at the start of Northwestern’s new season to discuss the family’s basketball journey, which is marked by remarkable peaks and valleys.
‘The Surf Ranch’ Kelly Slater is arguably the greatest competitive surfer ever
A New Wave. An 11-time world champion, Kelly Slater is arguably the greatest competitive surfer ever. Winning at age 20 in 1992, and at age 39 in 2011, he’s both the youngest and oldest to hold the title. Now 45, Slater is as much a marvel away from the waves as he is riding them. REAL SPORTS correspondent Jon Frankel reconnects with this trailblazer, visiting the Surf Ranch in Lemoore, Cal., a surfer’s paradise where Slater’s wave pool technology is poised to revolutionize the sport. Producer: Tim Walker.
‘Changing the Game’ soccer savant Tom Byer.
Soccer fans, critics and insiders across the country were stunned last month when the United States Men’s National Team suffered a shocking defeat to tiny Trinidad and Tobago, eliminating them from 2018 World Cup contention. Amidst questions about the direction of the team, Tom Byer claims he has what it takes to reverse this sorry state of affairs.
