SpaceX Gets Green Light for High-Speed Internet Service

On Thursday, The Federal Communications Commission granted permission to Elon Musk’s aerospace company to launch satellites into space. Musk can finally move forward with his plans to beam high-speed internet signals down to our planet from some 12,000 satellites in low Earth orbit.

“With this action, the Commission takes another step to increase high-speed broadband availability and competition in the United States.” – FCC
This is the first time the FCC has granted rights to a U.S.-licensed satellite constellation to provide Internet service from space. The project, which was named Starlink, will begin its launch in 2019.
