This Guy Took His Huge Telescope Around L.A. To Show Average People The Moon
Sure, you can Google images of photos taken through a telescope of distant planets and moons, but have you ever actually looked at them through a telescope? It’s quite surreal to be standing in the middle of a field on a clear night and looking up at the Moon through a telescope. It makes it even more real because you can observe it more detailed and intimately.
Wylie Overstreet and Alex Gorosh made this little film where they traveled around Los Angeles and gave passersby a chance to look up at the Moon through large a large telescope. What you see is people from old to young being wowed by what they see every night in the sky. The Moon is shown to them in all of its glory. Everyone that comes up and looked through it is floored. That’s what real science and observation does — it makes you take a step back and look at everything all over again.
“Man, that looks like it’s right down the street!” One man said after looking at the Moon through the telescope.
Doesn’t matter how old you are, what you do, where you’re from, or whatever else… no one can deny that looking at the sky through a telescope is pretty awesome. Check out the film below and try not to smile.
